Learn how to use ZapToMe for secure file transfer
What is ZapToMe?
ZapToMe is a P2P file transfer tool based on WebRTC technology. It allows you to transfer files directly from one device to another without going through any server, achieving true end-to-end transfer.
How It Works
- Sender selects files, generates a 6-digit pickup code
- Receiver enters pickup code to connect with sender
- Both parties establish P2P connection via WebRTC
- Files transfer directly from sender to receiver
Note:Server only helps establish connection (signaling), does not participate in actual file transfer.
Security
- ✓Files transfer directly between devices, not through server
- ✓WebRTC connection uses DTLS encryption by default
- ✓Pickup code expires after 24 hours
- ✓No registration required, no personal info collected
FAQ
Why does connection fail?
Possible reasons: 1) Network restrictions (e.g. corporate firewall); 2) Browser doesn't support WebRTC; 3) Pickup code expired. Try switching networks or using Chrome/Firefox.
What affects transfer speed?
Since it's P2P direct connection, speed depends on both parties' bandwidth. If both are on the same LAN, speed will be very fast.
Which browsers are supported?
All modern browsers: Chrome 88+, Firefox 78+, Edge 88+, Safari 14+. IE is not supported.
Is there a file size limit?
Theoretically no limit, but recommend keeping single files under 2GB. Keep the page open during large file transfers.
What are STUN/TURN servers?
STUN servers help detect your public IP; TURN servers provide relay when P2P fails. Default config includes public STUN servers.
Network Requirements
- • Both parties need stable network connection
- • WiFi or wired network recommended
- • Some corporate networks may block P2P connections
- • If connection is difficult, try configuring TURN server
